USB-C Smart Card & NFC Reader Selection Guide
Match contact, contactless or dual-interface reading to the card workflow before choosing a USB-C configuration.
Application guides
USB-C describes the host connector, not the cards a reader can access. Start with the card interface and required operation. Then confirm the exact hardware configuration, host software and evaluation scope before ordering.

Use these models as a starting point. Confirm the exact variant, software support and evaluation results for your project before ordering.
| Model | Selection focus | Confirm for your project |
|---|---|---|
| | ACR40U (Standard) is a contact reader; its specifications list USB-A and USB-C options. | Request Standard with USB-C and confirm the exact configuration; this product page does not name a USB-C suffix. |
| | ACR39U-NF is a USB-C contact reader with a full-sized ISO 7816 card slot. | Check the card protocol and middleware. The NF model suffix does not identify an NFC reader. |
| | ACR1552U-MF is the USB-C variant for contactless cards, including ISO 14443 and ISO 15693. | Specify MF rather than USB-A M1. Its SAM slot is not a full-sized contact-card slot. |
| | ACR1581U-CF is the USB-C dual-interface variant for contact and contactless smart cards. | Specify CF rather than USB-A C1 and evaluate both card interfaces with your application. |
Plan the evaluation
Identify the card
Use its exact model, interface and required read/write commands.
Check host integration
Review model-specific drivers and manuals. A driver download does not establish native browser access.
Evaluate the workflow
Test the actual host, card operations and reconnect behavior before deciding on quantity.
What to include in your enquiry
- Card model, interface and required operations
- Exact USB-C variant or configuration
- Host OS/version, application and middleware
- Evaluation/order quantities, destination and schedule
The Contact form will include this guide as its source. Add your requirements, review the details and submit your enquiry online.
Price, evaluation-unit availability, quantities, software scope and delivery need confirmation for each request.
Before you order
Is ACR39U-NF an NFC reader?
It is a contact smart card reader. Its USB-C connector and NF suffix do not add contactless reading.
Does USB-C imply NFC support?
The connector describes the host connection. Contact, contactless and dual-interface readers require different card interfaces.
Will any USB-C phone or application work?
Confirm the device, OS version, USB host support and application integration. A matching connector or PC/SC support alone does not establish compatibility.
Is a SAM slot a normal contact-card slot?
A SAM slot accepts the specified security module. ACR1552U lists a SIM-sized SAM slot; ACR1581U separately lists a full-sized contact-card slot.
